Our Blogging life is doing a series, spotlighting some amazing bloggers in our orbit. To start off our series, I sat down with OBL admin and blogger/singer extraordinaire, Zachary Aldana.

Zachary is a graduating senior from the University of Ilinois at Chicago with a degree in music with a specification in classical voice. He’s a solo artist with performances on NBC and on Kelly Clarkson’s 2015 Piece by Piece Tour at the Allstate Arena. I had three questions to ask him. Here are his answers.

Me: What are your current ventures?

Zachary: Currently, I am working on original music while posting covers online and performing gigs around the Chicago area. You can check out updates at zacharyaldana.com. I’m also starting a new blog, musicallifeblog.com, where I’ll comment, critique, and analyze anything music.

Me: That’s awesome, what are some of your current goals?

Zachary: My current goal is to continue developing myself as a recording artist and performer. I want to maintain a large platform to make this a solid career path for myself. And though this may sound cheesy, my ultimate goal in life is to treat people kindly and spread as much love and optimism as possible.

Me: That’s not cheesy in the slightest. I wanted to ask some fluff questions. What music are you into?

Zachary: I appreciate all genres of music but I mainly gravitate towards R&B, hip-hop, and pop both as an artist and as a listener.

Me: Cool. Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?

Zachary: Selena Quintanilla-Perez for her tenacity and her dynamic vocal quality that fits in every song. Kelly Clarkson for her soulful and powerhouse vocals that can make any song sound as if she were the original artist. Amy Winehouse for her impeccable storytelling through her lyrics and how effortlessly she can share her feelings with the listener. All three of these women share qualities of authenticity, humbleness, and confidence.

Me: That’s amazing. Those are all such powerful women. That’s actually all of the questions I had for you. Thanks for taking the time to speak with me.

Zachary: Yeah, thanks for your time.
